A few days ago I was approached by the lovelies in the House of Fraser beauty department to select my ultimate beauty icon and replicate their look – check more details here. Well my beauty icon has to be the sensational Blake Lively. What is there not to love about her? Her make up is always flawless; her signature makeup is the ‘no makeup’ look, one that gives her a natural yet dewy looking glow.
I thought I would post a make up tutorial of how to achieve the ‘Blake Lively natural look’ yourself in 5 simple steps!
Step 1 – The Face
Like any good artist you need a lovely smooth canvas to start your best work on…so try and make sure you try and start by using primer. Primer of choice for me has to be the M.A.C. Prep + Prime Natural Radiance. Not only does this primer elongate your makeup wear but also smooth’s out the texture of skin and gives off a radiant healthy looking glow – something that is a Blake Lively staple.
Foundation wise Blake’s skin always looks as though she is completely makeup –less in that sense. So I would suggest a light weight / moderate coverage foundation, such as Clinique ‘Even Better’ foundation. However, do not fear if you do have acne prone skin and need that extra coverage, this foundation is easy to build up with a foundation brush. The ‘Even Better’ foundation not only delivers brighter skin, but also prevents any future uneven skin colouration.
Next apply a little bit of ‘Nars Cosmetics Radiant Concealer’ (Custard shade) on top of any remaining redness or visible blemishes. Then use the ‘Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat Radiant Touch’ on outer corners of eyes and undereyes to brighten them, blend well.
Blake always has gorgeous bronzed glowy skin come rain or shine, the Chanel ‘Soleil Tan Universal Bronzer’ has to be my favourite bronzer of all time. This cream – gel bronzer leaves your skin with a dewy bronzed velvety finish.
Step 2 – The Cheeks
Blake’s cheeks have a hint of very subtle color to add some warmth to her skin.I decided to go for M.A.C Powder Blush in Melba. Apply it to the apples of the cheeks and lightly blend it along the cheekbones.
Step 2 – The Brows
The most important part of this entire look, well any look really, is creating a strong brow! Similar to myself Blake prefers her brow to be filled in and defined but without looking too heavy or dark. I adore M.A.C Eyebrows in ‘Lingering’ as its a similar pale brown/warm blonde shade that is used by Blake.
Step 3 – The Eyes
Now onto the eyelids, Blake uses predominantly rose / pink hues to keep everything looking quite natural. Therefore I have chosen the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, firstly blend the neutral pale pink ‘strange’ shade all over the lid. Next, take the dusty rose matte shadow ‘limit’ and the brown – pink satin shade ‘factory’ and blend them both ever so slightly in the crease. Blake’s makeup gives the illusion that she wears no eyeliner; but if you look closer you can see she has lightly lined her lower lashes in the outer rim of the eye. You can use any brown shaded eyeliner to achieve this.
Top with two coats of black mascara; I have chosen the ‘Bare Minerals Lash Domination’, which is a long wearing volumising mascara.
Step 4 – The Lips
In the majority of photos she is always wearing a pink or coral shade, which seems to compliment her ‘natural’ look. I have chosen L’Oreal high-shine lip gloss in shade 103 ‘Protest Queen’- a dewy pink.
Step 5 – Finishing Touch
To finish off the whole look just add a little bit of ‘Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup Setting Spray’ all over your skin to prevent any meltdowns through the night.
