As 2018 is coming to an end I wanted to take a look at the life lessons I’ve learned before we start another new year!
You Are Not Always Right
Sounds pretty simple, we can’t always be right can we? Although it may sound simple, the problem is I quite like being right, let’s be honest who doesn’t! Being right is a way of satisfying your ego. I have learnt over the past year that it is ok to admit that you were wrong, that you made the wrong the decision and should have listened to the advice from a loved one or taken another path. I found that when I began to realise when I was in the wrong I saw things differently and started to find new opportunities!
Ok, I am awful at this, whether its at work or in life I always want things done now, now, now. Everything I wanted needed to come as quickly as possible. The idea of having to play the long game would always frustrate me. However, over this year I have began to realise that good things really do come to those who actually wait and put in time and effort – even if it does take a little bit longer than I want it to. It is definitely something I plan to continue working on for 2019.
Cut Your Losses
I am the type of person who never wants to quit and always tries to give people / situations the benefit of the doubt – however, this year I realised that sometimes we all need to know when to throw in the towel. Especially when whatever it is that you’re pursuing will cost you too much emotionally and sacrifice your own well being in the process. Your well being should always come first and that can mean cutting certain people out who are draining you!!
Take Care of Yourself
I have been so guilty of this; I spend most of my time either working or blogging, never actually giving myself any “ME” time. Let alone having time to remember to eat or sleep – I do forget to have dinner most weekdays. The workaholic in me takes control sometimes and I do forget how essential it is to just allow yourself a break! You can’t feel guilty for taking care of yourself not only physically, but also emotionally.
Finally, I really do have so much in my life that I have to be thankful for; from the wonderful people that make everyday better, the roof over my head, my health and in general all the love that surrounds me!! I think everyone can take for granted how fortunate they really are, sometimes you just need to take a big step back and take it all in.
What life lessons have you learnt in 2018?
